Our Work

At its core, our work in Afghanistan is about belief: belief in people, in learning, in the power of change. Through our longstanding partnership with ANAFAE, DVV International helps turn the idea of lifelong learning into tangible opportunities,  so that every adult and young person, regardless of past circumstances, has a chance to learn, grow and contribute.

  • Learning Centres for Adults and Youth: We help establish and run adult-education and community-learning centres offering literacy, languages (including English), ICT, TVET and entrepreneurship courses. These centres are safe spaces for all to explore, learn and connect.
  • Vocational and Pre-vocational Training: Courses designed with market-orientation in mind, covering trades, administration, digital skills, and business-oriented modules. Curricula are being adapted to new realities: digital literacy, green skills, and entrepreneurial mindsets.
  • Entrepreneurship and Business Skills: We support training for adults and youth to start, grow and sustain small businesses. Women and disadvantaged groups are especially encouraged and enabled to become economic actors in their communities.
  • Educator and Organisational Development: Investing in the people behind the programmes, training teachers, facilitators and centre managers; building stronger organisational systems; opening networks among adult-learning and TVET providers.
  • Advocacy, Systems and Policy Engagement: Through networks and coalitions like ANEC, we support civil society, liaise with government policy-makers and help design frameworks that embed adult and lifelong learning into the national agenda.

Impact and Vision
Over two million learners have made use of these programmes, gaining confidence, skills and pathways to livelihoods. However, our vision goes further: we want learning to be not just a moment, but a continuous journey. We see a future where adult learning is integrated into life, where people learn through work, community, digital space and everyday life; where lifelong learning becomes the backbone of resilient communities and inclusive societies.
Even in a challenging environment, we stand firm in our conviction that learning is hope realized, and that every person who learns is part of a larger movement of change.
